Henry P Maples - The Leeds Mercury, Saturday, May 31, 1851 Issue 6130 Marriage to Elizabeth Margaret Pearse.

They had four children

I would love to hear from anybody who can help me find information on this side of the Family. He must have been the Richard Branson of his time.

Thanks Vivienne

I think that Hy P Pearson is the same person and Fly is in fact Hy short for Henry.

Henry Pearson Maples's father was also a Henry Pearson. I visited Goole Museum last years and viewed the Bromley Letters

From the Bromley Letters in Goole Museum
Mr. H Mapples. Left Thorne. whant(went) out to Lisbon return O to Liverpool and died there soon after his arrival in England and its conreidrnd (!!) not a lop(!!) to his family for he left them insolvant. Mrs Maples as trace(!!) her troubles for shortly after his death follows her sister Jane Pearson.

An interesting Find. Bromley was the partner of Robert Pearson my Gt Gt Grandfather. His step sister was Mary Pearson mother of H P Maples.

Robert Pearson ran the London end of the Business at Stanton's Wharfe, Tooley Street, Southwark. It would not be surprising to find out that He helped his nephew out and the Family moved to Southwark.

If he left them insolvent and it was (considered?( a great (loss?) She appears to have had something tucked away?

Or of course you may think this is not your Mary Mapples/Maples/Pearson in 41/51

Many thanks Vivienne for your invaluable help. I missed the info on Mary Maples daughter Mary Born 1823. You have also confirmed that the dates are Christening dates not Date of Births as I had. (Maples is the correct spelling the News paper article has the wrong spelling). I believe the Pearson Family would have helped out as they were quite wealthy for the times.

Thanks Mary

I have the information from the Roots Web. The same lady has a tree on Genes. Her maiden name is Pearson and she I found out have a common Gt Gt Gt Grandfather Richard Pearson. We met up in Hull last year and visited the Hull Maritime Museum where she showed me the Old Pearson Ledgers of our Shipbuilding and owning business of Thorn and Hull.

I am interested in In 1856 Henry Pearson Maples took mortgage out to buy SS Lyon and SS Orleans. I knew he wanted to expand his business to trips to New York. His main business was Day trips to France, Belgium and the Channel Islands. He did in fact arrange one trip to New York but it didn't work out.

Ian Pearson

Many thanks
