Hello there, my husband is Kenneth John Simpson and we are trying to find out where his Grandfather was born and when, all we know is he is John Simpson born in Scotland. He came across to Queensland Australia at some time in 1900's early on, he married Elizabeth Ellen Worthington in Australia in 1916 and one of his children was my Ken's father, a Robert McBain Simpson who married Myrtle Ivy Richards, if you can help can you let me know, many thanks, Michelle Simpson

You need to buy his marriage certificate.
This should have his age and his fathers name as well.
If you have his fathers name then we might be able to find him on the 1901 census

Reg.No./Year .. 1916/C2836
Bride .. Worthington Ellen Elizabeth
Groom .. Simpson John

Hi Michelle,
You can ask for help with the immigration records. Start a new thread and ask for someone to check Find my Past as they have immigration 1890-1960.

There are 824 John Simpson's born between 1880 and 1900 on ScotlandsPeople
good luck Narelle

From 1900 to 1916 there were 19 "John Simpson's" who travelled to Australia.
4 of these landed in Brisbane, 3 in 1910 and 1 in 1911.

Do you know when he died ?
Try and get his death certificate. The Australian certificates have a LOT of exta info on them.
Like a list of all his children and their ages
plus how long he had been in the "colony'

Not sure if this will reach you as I see your message is 2008. Would love to hear from you in connection with your query. I believe there is a very distant relationship. I can take you back to his Scottish roots.

Betty, you've noticed that Michelle posted some time ago. She hasn't been back to the boards since.

You could try clicking on her name to send her a Personal Message through the GR system. They can forward it if she still has the same email address that she registered with them back then. You have to hope she is then around to open the message and respond.
