Good luck!! The military records certainly give a feel for your great grandad's character. I noticed he'd been disciplined a couple of times, plus the medical history and the interesting little things like he had part of an index finger missing do help to build up a picture of the person.

Do take George's advice regarding contacting Veterans UK about Thomas Niblett. I've just contacted them regarding my grandfather's records and the lady on the phone was extremely helpful. Luckily I have his Officers Release Book so I knew his rank, number and unit.

As my grandmother is still alive we didn't have to pay for the records (if they can even find them that is!!) but normally the cost would be £30.00. I don't know how long it will take for them to come through (if at all) but it will be a nice surprise if they do turn up.

Considering i was fostered and hardly know my own parents this is great .. am meeting a cousin tomoz. his mother is a sister to my dad.

For WW2 recordsor records after 1924 for your 1918 birth Thomas you have to apply for them, these records are still held by the MOD, and are not online, here is the link, which explains all

For WW1 records these are available on Ancestry, but over 70% of these records were destroyed in WW2, so its a question of luck if yours have survived.

If you do not subscribe i will look for you, it would help if you have his birth location.

Could someone please point me in the right direction for army records of my granddad and great-granddad. My granddad was Thomas Niblett born 1918 in Halliwell. My great grandfather was Joseph Niblett born 1888.
