Hi Colin

I can't see them in bdms in Vic but could this be arrival?

Family Name First Name Age Month Year Ship Port Fiche Page
BAXTER E MRS 28 JAN 1883 SORATA B 412 010
BAXTER J MR 30 JAN 1883 SORATA B 412 010

Ages aren't quite right and no sign of Thos so perhaps not.

If this is them they must have moved on as no further trace in Vic.

Sorry

Hi iki

So sorry I really can't help to find your dad. If only the surname was more unusual, but with so many Davies even electoral rolls and phone directories are difficult.

But if you think he is still in Tasmania, there are 8 J Davies listed in the White Pages online. Also, no J & M, but 2 that are M & J.

Seems your only choice might be to make some phone calls. Not easy.

Good luck
Cherilyn

Hi Cherilyn, I did find some of this info for myself after I posted this actually, but I only managed to find a few of the children that they had and only one of their mariages so this has certainly helped!

Any more info you have would be greatly appreciated thanks very much!

Both his parents also died in Victoria. Not sure if you already have details, but let me know if you need this (have found UK marriage, 1881 census, immigration, deaths and alsomothers death notice).

Not sure what you already have :-) but hope this adds to it!

Oh that's a shame.

I'm not sure where you live but NSW residents can register as a State Library user and this gives them online access to search Sydney Morning Herald Archives.

If not, try the Ask a Librarian 'Information Request' service. You can fill out a form online and they will spend up to 2 hours on your request, so that should be do-able.

http://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/services/ask/index.html?HomeLink=Ask_A_Librarian

Good luck! Let me know how it goes.

Hi Cherilyn

I'm actually looking for a few marriage and births in the state of Victoria.

The first marriage I'm looking for is between John Henry Blockley and his wife Louisa Beatirce (surname unknown). I think the marriage will have taken place somewhere between 1903 and 1906, certainly no later than 1906 but could have been before 1903.

I am then looking for their children. I believe they may have had a few sons - John Henry, Charles William and Edward Samuel - I'm afraid I don't have rough dates for these.

Thanks very much!

Thanks for this. Does it say what the warrant was for. Perhaps he died in jail or ? I have not been able to trace him. If he was in SA in 1940 that is where he may have been.

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 27 Jun 2011 03:38

Of course, silly me, you did say he was born in Cobar.

So he had middle initials A R. No matching deaths in NSW.

From electoral rolls he must be Frederick Augustus Roy, with wife Cecelia Katherine Mott, in Darling NSW 1930-43.

There is a result in Google that is rather mysterious, supposedly from the SA Police Gazette of 1940 - it was regarding a warrant issued.
Mott, Frederick Augustus Roy, alias H. E. James

So it seems possible he changed his name. No WWII enlistment.
