Joseph Hill was born about 1820 and was a gamekeeper on the Blackrock Estate, Kingstown (as it was known at the time), near Dublin, Ireland.
I only know of the father's details from his son Joseph's (1847 - 1909) marriage certificate.
The aformentioned son Joseph was raised on the Blackrock estate and ran away from Ireland to escape his father at the age of 14, he ended up in a Manchester lodging house in Hulme, were he stayed with other Irish immigrants.
He got married in 1872 to Margaret McMahon after moving to Liverpool and staying in a lodging house with his future in-laws. He had a large family totalling 17 children, although not all survived. They lived at 6 Summerseat, Vauxhall, Liverpool, then at 49 Opie Street Everton, Liverpool and finally at 29 Potter Street Everton Liverpool.
Joseph died in 1909, the 1911 census only giving his wife Margaret as a widow living at 63 Melbourne Street Liverpool.
The children of this marriage that I have traced are:-
Joseph (1873-1935)
James (1876-1950) - married his brother William's widow in 1922
William (1878-1917) - died in WW1
Bridget (1879)
Mary (1882)
Margaret (1883)
Catherine (1884)
Agnes (1886)
Charles (1887)
Elizabeth (1888)
Sarah (1890-1892)
Esther (1891)
Sarah (1893-1984)
Any information on the children's paternal grandfather Joseph Hill (1820) would be gratefully appreciated.
Regards,
Chris
