I'm gonna answer the nice PM I just got here, in case anyone else was wondering. ;)

Am I okay? ;) I am hot. I am humid. I am hot. My bones hurt from the heat. My muscles hurt from the humidity. I haven't bothered putting the a/c in my office window because it's a giant pain to do and then I can't socialize with my wall-climbing squirrels, and usually I only need it for about 3 days a year so it isn't worth it -- but this just isn't going away! It's hell with steambaths here!

(Coming from here where it's both a hot wet heat and a freezing wet cold, and having people from the even frozener wastes of Alberta always saying things when they visit like "yes, but it's a *dry* cold", I'm expecting to be met in the nether depths by a red being saying "yes, but it's a *dry* heat".)

So it all makes me a bit bad-tempered, but it mainly just makes me stupid.

I'm no use to ancestor hunters in this condition. I know I was thought to be on holiday a little while back, but really I was just stupid. And a little bad-tempered. I took the opportunity for about 3 days to go mess around at the eharmony boards (discovered it's easy: you get banned, you sign up as someone else, duh). No brain needed for that. ;)

No.1 was pointing out this morning that the weather channel people aren't even bothering to mention when it might end. It isn't ending. It's hellaciously horrific and it isn't going to end. This morning, counting the humidex, it was exactly 100F. Really only about 86F by temp, but it's the humidity, it really is. And tomorrow I have to do a big job for Monday that I didn't do anything on today. So give me a great big

WAAAAAAAAH!!

please. Show you care ...

Sylvia - advanced syphilis at young age - born with (acquired during delivery).

Silver nitrate is it, the drops that started preventing blindness in children as a result of contracting syphilis dyring delivery?

It's a very pleasant 24C in the shade in my back garden at the moment, probably about 21 or 22 officially ....... taken at the airport which is at sea level, and exposed to lovely sea breezes.

honestly?? I pity you!!

Yes I know - it bothers me to very much - did wonder about putting a "post it thingy " on freebmd against her birth - but thought it would draw attention her - and any one searching for her - would have to get her birth certificate to find out - she married in my fathers name - my parents altered her birth certificate for the marriage - her two sons did not know until after her funeral 2 years ago and they were aged 50 and 52 - all horrible - my dear old Mum - just did not think about the reality of what she was doing -

yes, that had crossed my mind

..... but wouldn't she have been showing signs of it when she married just 2 years before she died??

and if so, why did the guy marry her?

and wasn't there a big chance that he could catch it from her?? He did live a good long while with the second wife, and had a few children.

Incidentally ....... the second wife, sister of the first didn't die until a good old age.

I'm too young to know what the signs of advanced syphilis are. ;) Other than madness. A famous case from my law school days dealing with "automatism", insanity. A mad truck driver believing he was under "orders from headquarters" drove a truck into a wall. But he swerved at the last minute. He had advanced syphilis. But did swerving at the last minute mean he wasn't insane?

Ah, law school exam problems ...

Maybe people in general were just so diseased there wasn't much choice! When was it again?

Old Ernest Hill/Monck married his pregnant partner in late 1872, she died in early 1873 of tuberculosis shortly after giving birth. (And I learned at this site how TB gave women elevated libidos, and pregnancy staved off the symptoms.) Surely her illness was apparent too. But then I think most people in his family had TB ...

Janey

Know what you mean about heat and humidy - it was 46 here last week - and we will not get any respite until first week in Sept - it drops about 10 degrees - and boy do you feel the difference - and then 10 more a couple of weeks after that - and lo and behold it

becomes a spring again

Rene - about the postem at FreeBMD -- you could just add a postem saying you are related and give an email address -- or you could say "married as" with the date and place, without explaining. If you want it "on record" in some way.

Margaret

the phrase "It is intended that the reader of this thread reads the first post only." IS on the first post

ie, the very first post that was ever posted on this thread

all other posts have followed afterwards

As I said earlier ........ if you are NOT seeing that post when you first click on this thread then you have your thread settings at Last Reply first, which means that YOU have to scroll all the way through the pages to see the original first post

many, if not most, of us have it set as First Reply first, so we scroll through all the pages to get to the most recent reply.

Just look at the date and time on each post, and you should see what I mean.

SylviaInCanada

Margaret

But if you only wanted to see the tip, then you would have no need to scroll through 81 pages

...... actually you don't have to scroll through each individual page.

To the right of the lighter green band above the first post on a page are the page numbers ........... click on More Pages, scroll down to the highest page number that you can see, click on it. That will bring you right to page 81 (or it might be 82 by now)

You delete this thread from your My Threads by deleting every single one of the posts you have made on here

or just let it sink slowly down by remembering not to post on it again

those are the only two ways
