Cynthia - we used to call them 'goosegogs' for some strange reason and I grew a lot of them in my last garden (this one is too small and I am too old for all that work!!)

Anyway, - 'Prickly little things' as I remember but VERY tasty !!!

Did she mean Triffid...as in Day of the.........???

Anyway, can I call on my friendly sleuths for a mo??

I could do with some verification for my friend's tree please.

The story so far:

Marriage certificate: Primitive Methodist Chapel, Platt Bridge, Hindley, Counties of Lancashire and Wigan(!)

December 1923
Albert Mather aged 21 bachelor, Coal Heaver, 511 Bickershaw Lane, Abram. Father: Ernest Mather, Colliery Fireman.

to Ellen WEbb aged 23 spinster, Colliery coal settler?, 377 Bickershaw Lane, Abram. Father Edward Webb, Coal Miner.

Witnesses: Henry Birchall and Ethel Webb.

So, I have looked at the 1911 as far as I can, and have come up with this possibility but I can't view the actual address etc. but it is in Wigan.

Ernest 1879
Elizabeth 1878
Albert 1903
Mary Elizabeth 1905
Ernest 1909
Edith 1910

Can any of you confirm that is likely to be them please?

The only marriage I can find suitable is for an Ernest Mather to an Elizabeth Carver in 1904 - Wigan.

What about this for the 1901??

Name: Ernest Mather

ADDRESS 513 BICKERSHAW LANE!!!

Could be a coincidence I suppose but it is next door to where Albert got married from....
