Find Ancestors

Thanks Stuart but I think the Charles Wells in York Castle is not mine as his trade was a coach maker/mender.

1841 - Charles Wells b Yorkshire age 30 b 1811 (could be up to 34 with rounding of ages in 1841 census so b 1807 which is about right if he died aged 41 in 1848) He is listed as a Debtor PAper Maker. He is listed at York Castle which was a Prison.

Seems like G.R. is up to it's old tricks again, I did a reply and submitted it, went out of the room and came back and the site had gone awol!

Thanks Margee and Maureen. Perhaps the brother was hiding them in his cellar until the ennumerator had passed - lol.

Thanks for looking Brummiejan and Ginny. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for FMP - whatever that is?

I've had no luck either but if little Charles was born 1840, York and died 1842 there one would think he'd be on the 41 census there.

Ive just had a look on Ancestry and they are not showing. Maybe someone with FMP might have better luck

Have had a good look on Ancestry Frances and I just can't see them.
Fingers crossed someone else will have more luck!

I originally did my research on my Wells family back in 2004 when it needed a visit to the library or archives to search through film and fiche! From that time I gleaned various facts but failed to find the family in the 1841 census.

Between the 1851 and 1841 census there is the death of the father Charles Wells on 21 March 1848 at 81 Hope Street, Parish of St George, Age 41 and Occupation Coach Maker. Also his youngest son Charles was born 14 June 1840 in York and died in the Jun Qtr 1842 age 2 in York. I have never been able to find a birth for Charles c.1807 but the 1841 census would say whether he was born in the county?

Hannah Burton was born 27 Dec 1807 in Bossall, Yorks, was christened 1 Jan 1808 in Bossall, North Yorks. She married Charles Wells 5 Mar 1832 in St Olave York.

From time to time various clever people, on this site, have found census of families who ‘hide’ in census with ‘false surnames’. Is there any chance of somebody spotting my ancestors in 1841 please?

I have been unable to find a reason for the family being in Derby in 1836 but this could be just related to Charles’ occupation or possibly he had relations there????
