but the look up of Oxford only lists R W
1945 shows Robt W (Alice M) retired h 4242 Oxford N Bby
(Street look up again unhelpful - I was hoping I might find a daur living there - either married or not)
1941 no hits in Vancouver or Burnaby

This is Robt's service record - it's a 27MB pdf file, so it took a couple of mins to download on my PC.
On p 27 of 58, it says he arrived in Shorncliffe (near Folkestone) as part of the 63rd bn, but was almost immediately transferred to the 1st pioneer bn (which was probably part of 1st Can Div).
In 5/1917, this unit became 9th bn CRT (Canadian Railway Troops)

you'll be able to download their war diaries (page by page).
I read a bit of the pioneer WD, and there was a lot of digging sumps in that bit.
If you don't know, a dugout is prone to flooding.
If I dig a sump (really just a hole a couple of feet across and a couple of feet deep) in the dugout, then obviously that will fill first.
However, before it's full, I can bail the sump using jerry cans and thus prevent the rest of the dugout from flooding.

The nominal census date for 1911-1921 was 1st June with Canada's 92 y census closure, 3m wouldn't have been enough time to index 1921.

1916 col 5 says 63rd for Robt - this would be the 63rd (overseas) battalion.

The 63rd Battalion, which was authorized on 20 April 1915 as the '63rd "Overseas" Battalion, CEF', embarked for Great Britain on 22 April 1916. It provided reinforcements for the Canadian Corps in the field until 7 July 1916, when its personnel were absorbed by the '9th Reserve Battalion, CEF'. The battalion was disbanded on 1 September 1917. (The unit also sent three reinforcing drafts overseas on 11 September 1915, 22 January 1916 and 2 March 1916)

A Canadian infantry unit would typically spend 6-9 m training in Canada, then go to the UK where it did another 3-6m training. It was then sent to France.
The 63rd was originally planned as a replacement battalion for the Eddies - the 49th (Edmonton) bn, one of the 12 infantry bns in the 3rd Canadian division, but differing national enlistment rates, and differing unit casualty rates forced modifications on this.
You'ld need a copy of his service record to see what unit he served in.
LAC now has a policy that if you purchase a digitization of his record, they'll also place it online, so it'll be free for the next Eden researcher.

Burnaby is a suburb just E of Vancouver - you can't tell when you've gone from one to the other, unless you get to wondering why the last street you crossed was called Boundary.
Langley is a sprawling suburb S of the Fraser R, and 30km SE of Burnaby. It's still mostly rural, even more so 40y back. The township is abt 20 m N-S from the Fraser to the US border - 28 Ave would be 5.6 m N of border - and abt 15 m wide, from 195 St to 270 St - roughly Langley town centre to Aldergrove. Langley town is centred on 200 St and 50 Ave, so Claude lived to S, half way to US - what is now known as Murrayville is just E of the town, between 215 St and 224 St, straddling the Trans-Canada. The township also includes Fort Langley, a small town centred on the site of the old Hudson Bay trading post on the bank of the Fraser, the first European settlement on the BC mainland.
Robt's d.cert says he was a barber - I did wonder as being a brickie doesn't strike me as a normal gateway trade to barbering.

I think (but don't know) that unlike the UK, AB BMDs are closed records. There are some records in the provincial archives, but these are pre-Sept 1905 and relate to that part of the NW Terr that became AB.

Thankyou so much mgnv for all the links you provided me with I notice that from the two census pages that Claide is not living with a neighbour as i thought, Robert and the rest of the family are on the bottom of page 20 and Claude is at the top of page 21 It is also nice to walk down the steet of my family so to speak It looks a nice area. Maybe it has been redeveloped since 1916

would seem to cover all 3 addy's, so I followed the path

I don't understand why claude who died in 1975 aged 62 is not on the 1916 census. he would have been 1year old in 1916 I now know that Claude and mike were the same person "Claude Mike Eden" as he and his brother Cive were station in England during WW2 can anyone find their war records,Iam still totally lost with Irene Eden birth 1916---1925

I am certain i brought up the other childrens (including Claudes) births and marriages and deaths before,but i can not now.Claude and a brother Clive visited Sunderland during WW2 as they were stationed in England

He's with Alice M. aged 25. He says he's been in Canada before 1907-1910. They're heading to Lethbridge, Alberta.

Some time ago I discovered part of my family living in Albera Canada using LDS site. Having lost the information I am now trying to refind it. I have the 1916 census:-
