I am trying to find when Catherine died and wondered if anyone can help.
.Catherine was born in Caton, Lancashire in 1828. She was the daughter of William Butterworth and Jane nee Townley. Catherine had a daughter Margaret Ann Butterworth in 1851 but wasn't married at the time. She married John Horman on the 24.10.1853 in Lancaster. John died in 1870 in Preston, Lancashire. Catherine went on to marry Christopher in 1875. Christopher was born in 1841 in Lancaster, Lancashire and died in Lancaster in 1896. I can find no death for Catherine but wondered if she also died in Lancaster. Pat

All the dates seem wrong. Marriage details for John and Catherine were listed as on the 24.10.1853 John was 22 making him born 1831c and Catherine aged 23 so must have been born 1830.
Second marriage 1875 but Catherine listed as 40 making her born 1835.
I have a baptism record for the 25,05.1828 in Caton Lancashire.
She is listed on the 1881 census as born in 1832 therefore I have 4 different dates for her birth. Christening 1828, first marriage born 1830, second marriage 1835 and 1881 census 1832. I think Catherine must have had a selective memory. No wonder I can't find her death. Pat

Many thanks but I don't think they are my Catherine as Skipton is in Yorkshire and Salford is in Manchester. The family as far as I know had no connection with either. Pat

I presume this is her in 1891- under Horman:
1891 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription Holley Street, Oswaldtwistle, Blackburn, Lancashire, England
William Horman Head Married Male 39 1852 Gass Stoker At Gass Works Lancaster Ann Jane Horman Wife Married Female 40 1851 - Blackburn, Lancashire John Horman Son Single Male 17 1874 Cotton Spinner Preston, Lancashire, England William Horman Son Single Male 15 1876 Cotton Spinner Preston, Lancashire, Ann Ellan Horman Daughter - Female 14 1877 Cotton Piecer Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire Catherine Horman Daughter - Female 11 1880 Cotton Piecer Oswaldtwistle, Lancashir Joseph Horman Son - Male 8 1883 Scholar Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, England Margery Horman Daughter - Female 6 1885 Scholar Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, Margaret Horman Daughter - Female 3 1888 - Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, Cathrine Horman Mother Married Female 63 1828 - Lancaster John Horman Brother Single Male 24 1867 Labourer At Gass Works Preston, Lancashire, --------------------------------------
Brother John is still living with William in 1901, but no Catherine. So perhaps one of these deaths (different spelling- but correct area): First death is more likely, as second death is possibly the wife of Richard Edmundson -she was born 1825.

Thanks for the input regarding Catherine but not sure that this is my Catherine as she was married to Christopher Edmondson (Edmundson) in 1891. He only died in 1896. Pat

Yes there is a connection. I have since found that the mother of Margaret Ann Butterworth was Catherine Butterworth who wasn't married at the time of Margaret's birth so father unknown. Since found out that Margaret Ann was born in 1851 and died in 1922. Thank you for your reply. Pat

Patricia- there may be many reasons that she reverted to using the Hormon surname in 1891- but it does look to be her as she is living with two of the children listed on earlier census:

I would go with the 1891 being her - and as everyone else in the household was a Horman, then 10 to 1 it was done without a thought - if William completed the forms, he was a Horman and she was his Mother.
As for ages varying from one record to the other, it happens frequently, for a variety of reasons. People were not so literate then. And of course the enumerator took age 40 from year 1891 and made b1851, but due to time of year census was taken, much more likely to born 1850. If you reverse that and say b 1850 and they are 40, then you'd be in the year 1890.
Part of it may have been to make ages look more similar. The marriage has Christopher as 39 in 1875 so b 1836, 1881 has him as 43 b 1838 and you say he was born 1841! If Catherine was born 1828 that's a 13 year gap someone may have been trying to make look less.
