Chris. just looked at the cert again and it states Westminster goodness knows why I had Kensington on my mind., sorry about that. It's my age !!!!!. I did find in 1841 a John Wingfield and. Simon Jackson on same census, so wonder if any connection with those 2 and Eliza. By June that would have made Lucy Sophia Wingfield about 3 months old so she would have been listed on the census. States on her birth certificate father was a Baker.

Looking on google search, 1841 Census taken 6th June.

Chris :)

(below also from google, which seems to fit with 1841 Birth, Westminster, did you say Kensington?)

Survey of London: Volumes 31 and 32, St James Westminster, Part 2. ..... 65) The widening of Crown Court extended Rupert Street to Little Pulteney Street but ... plot a passage-way 9 feet wide led through Smith's Court to Great Windmill Street.

Edits (near Piccadilly Circus/ Brewer Street looking on map)

Just received the birth certificate for Lucy Sophia Wingfield and it states born 4th April 1841, born 12 Smiths Court in Kensington. would that be around the time the census was taken?. Father John Wingfield and mother Eliza Wingfield formerly Jackson . I seem to be no further advanced because I still am unable to find any of them either in the 1841 or 1851 census. Any more help will be appreciated if possible

(think a good idea to get Birth Cert., better to have correct info., am sure your friend would agree, better for his 'Tree' in the long run!)

Do remember that Civil Registration didn't start until 1837 and those for births didn't come compulsory until 1873. We've probably all found families where may be the first born, or the boys, were registered and the rest weren't.

John Report 12 Feb 2017 13:08

Sorry about duplicating the topic, hadn't realised I had done it already.. Malyon , that's an interest thought, her being under another name. Will have to look up a Skenner/Wingfield marriage. I have just seen the marriage of her to William Richards and it states her father William Wingfield

It certainly looks like it, Chris.

As this is the second attempt to sort out her birth family, it looks as if the BC is the only option.

Although we love to help by look up records, it's preferable that you don't start new threads about the same family or person. Just add a sentence to the original thread to bring it back to the top of the page.

I am doing the tree for a friend, have already bought a couple of Certs so really don't want to go into too much expense, but if I have to then so be it. Thought I would go through this route first to see if anyone can come up with some ideas.

John

John Report 12 Feb 2017 00:45

I have tried to find a marriage for Wingfield and Jackson with no luck. Perhaps he was a soldier.
