Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I've been tracing my great grandfather's ancestry and it turns out although he was a Reynolds, his mother (nee Walpole) was actually widowed (her husband was Joseph Reynolds) by the time he was born in 1898. So although she gave two further children the name Reynolds, her late husband, who was father to several of her other children, was not his father.
Is there any way of tracing who his father may have been? Perhaps through baptism records?
The details I have are:
Harriet Elizabeth Walpole / Reynolds: 1864-1934
Son: George Reynolds 1898 Daughter: Ethel Maud Reynolds 1903
She had been widowed in 1896.
They lived in Cross Globe Street in Norwich.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks Hannah

Well you register a child in your current surname so even though she was widowed that was still her surname
Take it you you have birth certs that have the fathers name blank . This means she didn't name or have the fathers acknowledge paternity

If his father's name isn't on his birth cert, then I'm afraid there's no way to find it out.
No mms given - is this him?

Ethel's birth record does give mms Walpole.

Thank you all - unfortunately I can't afford to order birth certs at the moment so am seeing what can be done online.
Excuse my ignorance ArgyllGran, what do you mean by mms?
Thank you Chris, that extra info is very interesting.
