Thanks Dea
So it looks like I meed to go for the death in 1865 in Glanford Brigg. If I give the registry enough information they are usually pretty good and will phone me if it is wrong. Then I will have to go for that death in Thorne.
all the best

Ages for those two deaths:
Results: Name: Age at Death (in years):
GRAY, WILLIAM 66 Order GRO Reference: 1862 S Quarter in GLANFORD BRIGG Volume 07A Page 331
GRAY, WILLIAM 3 Order GRO Reference: 1865 M Quarter in GLANFORD BRIGG Volume 07A Page 474
So, it looks like the 1865 one is more likely.

Hi PricklyHolly
Sorry I didn't get back to yesterday. I was a bit sore after that hospital visit. Thankfully everything is ok.
Thank you so much for all that information you gave me on William. I can now confidently add him to my tree. I think I will send for his death cert to see what he died of.
All the best

Where was the birth register for the William Gray born 1861?
The only one born 1861 with MMN Walker is this one......
?? Births Dec 1861 (>99%) GRAY William Goole 9c 487
GRAY, WILLIAM MMN WALKER **** GRO Reference: 1861 D Quarter in GOOLE UNION Volume 09C Page 487
I see John and Hannah are in the registration district of "Goole" on the 1861 census
John Gray in the 1861 England Census Name: John Gray Age: 28 Estimated birth year: 1833 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Hannah Gray Gender: Male Where born: Barton, Lincolnshire, England Civil Parish: Armin **** Town: Armin **** County/Island: Yorkshire Country: England Registration district: Goole Sub-registration district: Goole
John Gray 28 Hannah Gray 28 James Gray 3 Mary Ann Gray 4
Mary Ann Gray in the England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 Name: Mary Ann Gray Gender: Female Baptism Date: 7 Dec 1856 Baptism Place: Rawcliffe By Goole,York,England Father: John Gray Mother: Hannah
I see John and Hannah are in the registration district of Glanford Grigg on the 1871 census........
Transcribed as Guy
John Guy in the 1871 England Census Name: John Guy Age: 37 Estimated birth year: abt 1834 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Hannah Guy Gender: Male Where born: Burton, Lincolnshire, England Civil Parish: Crosby County/Island: Lincolnshire Country: England Registration district: Glanford Brigg Sub-registration district: Winterton
John Guy 37 Hannah Guy 37 Mary Ann Guy 14 James Guy 13
I see the 1869 death you are referring to in Thorne.
Deaths Mar 1869 (>99%) Gray William 8 Thorne 9c 430
Wondering about this one ......(No age given though!)
?? Deaths Mar 1865 (>99%) GRAY William Glanford B 7a 474
There is also this earlier death.....
Deaths Sep 1862 (>99%) Gray William Glanford. B 7a 331
Ah, just found William's baptism record......
William Gray in the England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 Name: William Gray Gender: Male Baptism Date: 8 Sep 1861 Baptism Place: Airmin, York, England Father: John Gray Mother: Hannah
So it seems he was baptised in Aimin, Yorkshire and his birth was later registered in Goole, Lincolnshire the following quarter.

That information you found seems to be correct. No there is no link to a travelling family.

Thank you Andy
William knight was from her first marriage.
I have a possible son called William Gray b1861 -died 1869. This was from Johns' first marriage. John being her husbands name.
John Grays first marriage was to Hannah Walker. It was a long shot but I was just trying to prove that William was John and Hannah's son. I was hoping that Dinah would acknowledge William on the 1911 census as a dead child.
Well there was no harm in trying.
Thanks again

I though it might say that. This was a second marriage for her. although she had children from her first marriage it appears she didn't have any from the second marriage.
thanks for your help
