As you say the following marriage ref is a possibility. Google informs me that Croyden to Plumstead is about 13 miles.

William Asher
Spouse: Mary Manner
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 29 Jul 1776
Parish: St Nicholas, Plumstead
Borough: Greenwich
Register Type: Parish Register

As Robert has noted the couple had a son Robert born March 1777. Approx 8mth after that marriage took place.

You won't find a marriage ref a its pre bmds records .it would be parish records that don't give fathers names

I am trying to locate a possible marriage reference for a William Asher and Mary ? The couple had the following children born in Croyden, Surrey. They were baptised at St John The Baptist.

Anne 1783,
Mary Ann 1785,
Harriot 1789,
Sarah 1791,
Richard 1793 and
James 1798.

All help would be very much appreciated.
