Hi all.. wondered if any members had ever searched or had success looking these up..
- John Woonton born circa 1600-1610, Combe St Nicholas Somerset, circa 1640, perhaps in Ashill, married Jane Masters, born c. 1616 WindMill farm Ashill Somerset.

- William, John, George, James, Margaret & Samuel Woonton, all born Combe St Nicholas circa 1643 through to 1653.. Samuel married Mary unknown.

Appreciate any leads re these mystery kin of my Tree. Cheers

Try family search site

They hold old records

It is very unlikely that anyone who is also researching this family will spot your post.

As well as Shirley’s suggestion have you searched All members trees?

As you have found, researching around those dates is very difficult. If they were moneyed then they may appear on the Bishops Visittations. Have you tried the local records office - there may be. some mention of them in manorial papers or land sale/ leases.

Added- check out Genuki Somerset for information on various records. The page for Ashill doesn’t have much.

Try visiting the County Records Office

As Combe St Nicholas is not far from the borders of Devon you might have to consider searching in that county as well.

Added: Wayne may not be UK based. If so Wayne needs to check out the National Archives website which can give details of items in more local archives. He should also check out the RecordsOffices for Somerset and Devon on line. The Somerset & Dorset FHS might also be worth a try. As mentioned before Genuki Somerset does give other sources.

Good possibility that Wayne is in Australia...

Now I'm on my main computer - here is a list of some of the sites mentioned:

https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SOM
https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/
https://swheritage.org.uk/somerset-archives/catalogues-and-indexes/

Somerset Family history society : https://sdfhs.org/

I've checked the Visitations of Somerset 1623 (avaialble on line) and Woonton is not listed in the index.

Yes, Gwyn, looking now at posting time, I suspect you’re right!

One shouldn’t assume posters are UK-based, but `I guess we usually do, as most of them are.

To see whether anyone else has asked for lookups, put the surname in advanced search
Do you have all of these people in your GR tree so anyone connected who searches can see the link?

EDITED 8th June

Using advanced search it seems that the OP has had a considerable amount of help on GR……….possibly exhausting all available online records.

One other member has posted about the surname………..
