Do we pay for 1921 census or is it free on some websites please?

You can do a basic search of the 1921 census free, if you register with FindMyPast (ie - just register, don't subscribe).
It's only on FindMyPast at present.

However, to see full transcriptions or images, you need either a sub to FMP, or else pay-as-you-go,

However, without paying, you can hover the cursor over the document symbol beside each free search result, and it will tell you the first names of another couple of people (if any) listed with the person you've searched for, and how many people are in the household.
With a bit of work you can usually figure out who the other people are for free, though you can't see the address, occupations, or relationships.

The 1921 census on FMP is only for England and Wales.
The Scottish one is on Scotland's People website - also free to register and search, but buy credits to view full image.
