ErikaH Report 27 Jul 2024 10:18

He could have been in the army - do you have any reason to think he may have been - but military records for 1920 onwards are not online.

He should still appear on 1921 census

Who did he marry? And where, please.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 27 Jul 2024 10:22

Perhaps someone with a sub to FMP will have a look at this 1921 entry, please?
With luck, the birthplace may be another 1921 mistranscription.

BREEZE Mary 41 W.Hartlepool 10a 167

There were four Breeze/McCann births between 1930 and 1935 (though the eldest, Ivy M, died in infancy )- so maybe that's not the right marriage, unless the children weren't with their father in 1939.

ADDED:
I think it's the right marriage.
Mary's gravestone, in Stranton Grange Cemetery, Hartlepool, names her husband William James Breeze, died 12/11/1963, aged 69.

MORE:
The gravestone has actually been erected by one of their daughters, relatively recently by the look of it.

It says "Treasured memories of", and then there's a gap, followed by "Also her dear father William James Breeze. . . . [and so on] also his beloved wife and a dear mother Mary Breeze nee McCann . . . . . ."

In case it turns out to be relevant -

That 1939 couple, William and Edith, also had a daughter, Edith, in 1922.

That William died in 1953 in Market Drayton, with probate to his daughter.

Ancestry suggests he was baptised in Cheswardine, Shropshire on 25 Aug 1895. Parents James and Rose Ann.
That birth's registered in Market Drayton.

Of course Ancestry's supposition may just be because of the year of birth, and the geography.
But if true, then he can't be the Durham man in Lichfield in 1921.

There are a surprising number of men named William Breeze!
