Hi
I am trying to find a connection between Abraham Young B circa 1841 who went on to marry Mary B circa 1843 and who lived his life in Portsmouth. And Bingham Young founder of the Mormon church born in Vermont.
I know it might be a big ask, but if anyone can help that would be great.
Regards Mycroft

What have you done yourself to try to find a connection?

Sorry, but Young is an incredibly common surname......................what leads you to imagine there could be a connection?

You don't even have the correct forename for the American man!!!

He was BRIGHAM. He wasn't actually the founder of the Mormon Church.................read his biography

Born 1 June 1801, Whitingham, Vermont, United States
Died: 29 August 1877 (age 76 years), Salt Lake City, Utah, United States

WHEN did the UK one marry? Who were his PROVEN antecedents?

Where Abraham lived AFTER his marriage is probably irrelevant - you need to concentrate on where he was born - and his father before him - and work back from that

You will simply have to work back on BOTH lines and hope that Brigham Young's family origins were in England at some stage. Young is a very prevalent surname in Scotland!

Brigham was the ninth child of John Young and Abigail "Nabby" Howe. Young's father was a farmer,

Try finding out more about the father................

Abraham and his father are in a tree on Ancestry, but, as the 'owner' has attached a Birmingham baptism to one of Abraham's sisters, I wouldn't rely on its being accurate

Some Family history societies hold copies of family trees that have been given them. Maybe worth asking the Hampshire one - hgs ( Hampshire Genealogical Society)not Hampshire fhs.

Interesting little snippet from a Liverpool newspaper states that Brigham Young married in January 1868 to a Merivine Van Cott, who, when she was a gentile, was the wife of a Mr Cobb, from whom she was duly divorced. She was Young’s 31st wife, not counting those to whom he had not been formally ‘sealed’

Added…she was 23 to his 67, and her first husband was the son of Young’s wife number 4

Another 1868 article in a Bucks newspaper (and a Somerset one) has Brigham Young marrying on August 16th to five women from Berkshire, two of whom seem likely to have been mother and daughter
