A thoroughly selfish and non GR moan. I got 72 hours free access to Origins. This is a selfish moan, because I've been largely doing my own lookups and not advertising the fact. Being Easter, it's been quick dive ins as the visitors don't appreciate me disappearing all the time. Today, I have a bit more time, like everyone else.... The site is really slow, I go in for a final polish off.... and discover I'm timed out! They are on GMT rather than BST. That'll teach me to work up to a deadline! I've sent a whingeing email, but I know it's my own fault really. Doh. |

Someone posts request for help. Someone else responds offering that help and then yet another person jumps in asking the person who offered to do look-ups for them. Actually they hadn't offered look-ups in the first place. Cheek. Also, people who post offers of help but don't say EXACTLY what they're offering. Then they edit the heading later without saying they have done so and make people who have taken up the offer look stupid because what they want is NOT then included in the offer. Moan over Jan :-) |

Totally agree about the name summary. And maybe its me but I think its really rude when people just feel free to add a look up request to the end of someone's thread. I placed one the other night asking for a Kent look up, someone kindly obliged and then two other people posted 'Thank you for your kind offer, I'm looking for....'. No idea whether the person who did my look up obliged! AND when people don't read the thread message first and post a request for something that is totally unconnected to the message Ok, my Monday moan over! |

Christina - I was actually meaning year and county for when people were requesting census lookups, BUT I totally agree with what you say about the names summary. I just do NOT understand why GR allows new names to be entered without a year or county - it is not rocket science for the webdesign team to prevent this - and without a year or county the data is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. |

Hi Jools I just put a post in titled 'Put name of county or country in when listing' I hadn't seen your post or I would have put it on here. I find it most irritating to go to name summary and find all the new listings, some for the 1990's without even a country listed, let alone a county, how do they expect anyone to help them with a match if they dont put any info in. I make a habit now of ignoring these and not trying to match up, after all if they are born less than 15years ago they must have some info. I appreciate the fact that some people do not have any info for earlier births but surely some have a country, even a county with a question mark helps. |

Methinks that 'durr' is a comment on someone else's stupidity while 'doh' is a comment on one's own. |

Many people have helped me along the way and I have always tried to make sure I say THANK YOU! Jools you have helped me a few times in the past. I have hit a few walls and broke through one tonight with the help of Victor. It's great when you can help others, after all , this is an exciting hobby. But by the way drrrrr what is lol??!!! I thought at first it was lots of love, and that the people on this site must be very friendly indeed!!! Lynne x x (I understand the kisses) |

Lou If your still around - how about people who respond to your offer of lookups in 1861 and 1841 in a particular county, and only ask for 1861. Then several days later put up a thread asking for an 1841 lookup for the same county. So that you have to get your discs out again:)))) Chrissie Oh yes, and then have the cheek to ask if, while you are looking, you could please look up a different name for their cousin :)) |

Hi Shaz Yes, me too. Trouble is, this kind of thing then makes you say to yourself OK mate - you do it then, and is not really in the spirit of sharing is it. I love helping out where I can, but you get interested in the people yourself don't you, and then you want to know the results, so its really annoying when people then go off the thread and you're left hanging. I'll stop moaning now. Cheers Ellen. |

And to add to Johnathan's, people who nudge up without even bothering to comment on the info that's already been posted for them |

Someone has just done it again!!! I put a possible family from 1881 in response to a thread - and someone has come along behind and said to the requester 'I've e mailed you direct'. B****y H*** - I want to know too now what the answer is, since I've bothered to take an interest. Oh well. Keep smiling. Ellen. |

What annoys me, that someone asks for help, and it works out it is the same help that you need. A few people come up with some answers and you watch the thread eagerly and the next one says 'have mailed you direct' Why? Why cant we all see what they have to say, or is there a hidden agenda. Okay moan over till later when someone else will annoy me. |

My irratation is people who are ungrateful.... Just the other day a someone started a thread with a question (In what area of Glasgow is a certain street) and me being my usual helpful self (and Glasgwegian) decided to offer some help. I offered my advise as did another member, then the other member discovered the correct answer and posted another message. It turned out that I should have known the answer to the question in the first place and I posted a message basically declaring myself 'Stupid' for not knowning. Another post followed telling me not to worry and explained that it was understandable that I didnt know the answer as the street is no longer there. This was followed by another message saying what is now in its place. A football teams training ground infact. I posted a bit of banter saying how that team didnt need to train anymore and they should stop and give my team a chance to catch up. Because of this I was accused of changing the subject of the thread! This is definately an irritation and whats irritating about it is the fact that the person asking the question had already had their answer and where the thread went from there shouldnt really have upset them.
