Mother and Baby Homes in 60's

Can anyone tell me a website which lists these homes please. The info. I have is one in Baring Road, it was near Grove Park Station which I think could be Lee/Bromley/Downham but not sure. Have been told there was a public house opposite the station named The Baring Hall.

I would like to find out about the home and a mother who was taken to there.

It mentions this in a part of the text:

"The Diocesan Maternity Home was opened in 1928 at Stretton House, Grove Park. It was evacuated during the War to Limpsfield, Surrey and returned to Grove Park in 1946 as the Diocesan Mother and Baby Home. It closed in 1976. Other homes were run by local associations."

Not all mothers who stayed in M&B homes relinquished their babies for adoption however, the website www.adoptionsearchreunion.org.uk lists all the mother and baby homes. Click into locating records then into locating adoption record data base. Type in your search area and all the M&B homes will be shown.

I was born in a mother & baby home, as were my sister & half my classmates at school.................... one of them was actually born the same day & time as me and our mums were in rooms next to each other !

Our local hospital didnt have a maternity ward until the 1970s......... so Mums went to the M&B home instead

Please dont assume all babies born in a Mother & baby home were then adopted................ I certainly wasnt nor were my sister & friends!

Indeed, Diocesan Mother and Baby Homes were often very against adoption. In fact the Home discussed here, Stretton House, did not allow adoption for most of it's lifetime. I don't know how things were in the 50s/60s/70s but up until then I know many Diocesan Mother and Baby Homes were very against adoption.
