the house my great grandmother was in was in Great Western Road, i read somewhere that this road changed its name but was looking at work and had to close down quickly and now cannot find what the name changed to, i think she was in Derwent House (not very clear to read on census), in 1871 would this have been a founded school or similar |

I would imagine that a 'Servants Home' for girls is rather like the 'Industrial Schools for Boys' |

Industial schools were for girls as well. My gran and her sister went to one in Hackney London. They were a kind of home for older children where they were supposed to be taught skills. Greatgrand couldn't look after all her children so for a time they were sent away. |
