For anyone wishing to apply online for a NLS card.

NLS do require a Scottish postal address.
Once online registration is complete, 21 days access is provided.
NLA will post an activation code to the Scottish address provided within the 21 day period . The activation code must be entered within the alloted time for membership.

I found a totally unexpected article in a back number of the Glasgow Herald on the above site by googling my relative's name.

However, having found it and read it, I couldn't print a copy. So I downloaded it and still couldn't print as anything bigger than a thumbnail!!

Eventually I went to the Mitchell Library in Glasgow and obtained copies from their microfiche - at 50p each.

I am fortunate in that I live within reach of Glasgow - I don't know whether the Mitchell Library Archive section would do copies by post.

I forgot to add that as far as I am aware, The National Library Of Scotland (NLS) also has digitised copies of newspapers AND they are searchable.
The info on their site states that you can apply for a library card online, but you are required to live in Scotland!
Perhaps a Scottish contact address would suffice?

This is a link to the Glasgow Herald online
Unfortunately it is not searcable but it is free!

As far as I can see, all editions from Jan 1808 to Feb 1990 have been digitized.
