Brilliant, thanks. I'm pretty sure now that it was a transcription error in Pallots Index, and in my own recording of the date, which is in fact 1831,
The Genes community is so helpful. <3

All Saints Writtle Marriage Register

23 May 1831
William Porter Bachelor OTP
Sophia Rawlings {Otherwise Rollings} Spinster OTP
By Banns
Both signed and Sophia signed as Rollings which is probably why the encumbant added 'otherwise Rollings'.
Witnesses: Charles Porter
Jane Bailey
Robert Livermore. Clerk of the Parish.

There is no entry for 23 May 1832.

Hope that helps
Chris

I’ve had great success with queries on genes, so fingers crossed with this one.
I am having trouble with the Rollings side of things.

In Pallots there is a record of a Sara Rollings and William Porter 23 May 1831 and I wonder if this is a transcription error from the original index.

My Sophia Rollings B c 816- buried 10 June 1845 By Coroners Warrant ( couldn’t find anything about that in the local paper)
She married William Porter 23 May 1832 buried 10 June 1845 Writtle (according to parish records)

Their children
Clara buried 29 Aug 1842 age 3
Emma buried 6 June 1847 , age 11 from Chelmsford Union Workhouse
Edmund B c1834 no death found yet

All three were according to the census and parish burial records born in Writtle the two girls ans Sophia were buried there

The family above appear on the 1841 census
