I am researching my fathers side of the family and discovered he has a xg grandfather who was Richard Meredyth Bishop of Irelan aand his ancestor was possibly a king of Wales ( knew if I researched enough would discover I had royalty in my ttree). However I have found conflicting reports of which of his grandsons we are descended from; one is a rootsweb tree and the other is a book about heraldry as the Meredyth's were created Baronets so which do I believe

To be honest - neither - you do your own research, and verify everything.

Thankyou Reggie for your reply; the heraldic book is an earlier record and details the Baronets of Kildare but as yet I have not found any parish record for the parentage of the Meredyth I am looking at

You are back in the annals of time here..!

It would be interesting to see how you have have linked the family to the Meredyths of Wales and Kildare...

You will going back to Rodhri Mawr 820-878 (King of Gwynedd) if thats the connection you refer to.

Richard Meredyth....(Bishop of Leighlin) appears to have had only 1 son ...Richard .....(which would continue the Meredyth line...)
His daughter Sarah married into the Burtons....

Thankyou Erinborough, I am descended from a Charles Meredyth who was a major but served with Nelson at the battle of Denmark I had traced his father to Sir Barry Colles Meredyth and then found information leading back to the Bishop but then came across conflicting evidence so not confirmed as yet but Burton is a family name in my branch of the family. Thankyou once again but could you tell me whjere I could find Irish parish records

There is a Thread on the first page of this board (Theresa) that may help you however it will depend on the time frame and where you are particularly searching for Parish Records...(It wont necessairily be the Co Kildare)
You would also need to know Religion.

Have you Primary Source Info.relative to what you have traced so far...?

I have primary source information relating back to Juliet Meredyth who married Alexander Cowie in 1847 and named one of their sons Charles Burton Cowie . Juliet's fater was Charles Burton Newnham Meredyth and when I started researching further back on this family discovered the connection to the Bishop but there is conflicting evidence as to which grandsons we are descended from so am tring to research that further.

Well this is the Marriage of Charles to Moriah.....

Name: Charles Burton Newham Meredith
Bride's Name: Moriah Garvis
Marriage Date: 01 Oct 1822
Marriage Place: St. Mary'S Church, Lambeth, Surrey, England

You now need to double check if his parents were Barry Collies Meredyth who married Elizabeth Eastwood Co.Offaly 1770.

It was while I was researching Charles parentage that I discovered the link to the Bishop and through him King Rodhri and got very excited and abit carried away so now I have taken a step back and am trying to ascertain that Barry Colles Meredyth is indeed Charles' father, I had assumed that Charles had come from a priviledged background as he was a Major and am presuming that not many people worked their way up the ranks in the early 19th century
