On my grandmother's marriage certificate she gives her age as 28 when she was only 23. My grandfather said he was 39 but he was 42. People often tell lies when marrying and sometimes even family don't know a person's age.

Even my grandfather never knew his wife's real age. He had it wrong on her headstone!!

Only by buying the certificate will you know for sure.

I think the birth I found is possibly Ethel. The certificate would obviously prove or disprove it, but it is up to you whether you're willing to chance it or not.

On her marriage certificate it (1943) she is 37 making her born in 1906, also the informant on her death certificate was her daughter.

Are you basing her year of birth on the death record? If so then the year given is only as accurate as the informant's knowledge. People often get the day and month correct but can be out by several years.

I'd say that the 1904 birth looks like a good bet. It's the only one in Middlesbrough for that name from 1900 to 1910.

Thanks for looking that up, the census is correct but her year of birth is definatley 1906. Parents are Robert Charles Wallace and Amelia Goodchild.

I have the death (1990) and marriage certifictaes of Edith Maud Dickens (formerly Wallace) born March 1906 Middlesbrough but cannot find her birth record and she doesnt appaear on the 1911 census.
