Can anyone help me. I am trying to find the parents of James Lock. Born Bristol, Somerset circa 1812. He went to London and married Ann Pool who originated from Cambs.

Thank you both of you. That is as far as I have got. I am seeking his parents, do either of you know how to go about this. Genes does not have his birth in their records. :-( :-( :-( :-(

Since he was born before 1837 when registration began he will not have a birth certificate so the best you can hope for is a baptism record.

Thanks I have all these certs. I thought that parish registers would show info for circa 1811 births, is this not the case. This is the first time I have gone into this far back and as they were married in 1836 I haven't access to James Lock's parents. Any more leads?

Yes, parish registers will show birth info. but there aren't that many on line. It seems likely, from the previous posts, that James was definitely born in Bristol, and therefore I do not think the Wells baptism is him - Wells is several miles from Bristol and also it says (on Family Search) that the family was resident in Wells.

I think you need the Bristol parish registers, which seem to be available through Bristol and Avon Family History Society. According to Google, many of them are now on Find My Past, so that might be worth a try, although it also says that a lot were destroyed in the riots in 1831.
