One of my relatives was described on a census return as an "inmate" at the age of 10. It turned out his father was in the workhouse and he was enrolled at the school linked to it. The addresses were different on the census returns, one being for the address of the actual workhouse and the other for the address of the school. |

I found workhouse records at our local main records Office for late 1890 onwards. They arent online still but had to be looked at on microfiche and then copied off |

Which site did you find the census on? Although this site doesn't necessarily show the name of the institution on the transcription, others might. |

How or where do you find records of inmates of institutions I am looking for a relative who was an inmate between 1891 & 1901 I only have a name & reference number from 1901 census |
