My 2great grandfather Matthew Moore was a mariner and I cannot fine any records on him even census so I do not know who his parents were but he married a Eliza Jones on 27 March 1832 in St Peter Wisbech Norfolk Cambridgeshire. My cousin in England went to National Maritime Museum in Greenwich and only found one record BT 115 which had on it enter before so any records dated from 1822 to 1842 and I was wandering if you have any of those records on your site

Hi All my replies

I have all the information at you have given me as for Merchant navy seamen records chris I got the Bt 115 while I was in the UK earlier this year. also went to Kew and only had time to fine what I already had I need to go back to before 1845 records as he was a mariner in 1832 and possible before that time. I also found the records on familysearch. I have not found any birth records for him in Cambridgeshire for that year of birth but found a Matthew Moore in Kellington York Christening on 21 Jan 1810 with parents James Moore and Hannah.

Even in March where the records for St Peter Wisbech Cambridgeshire are kept do not have any record of a Matthew Moore born in 1810 so I becoming to think that he was born somewhere else and when his ship went in to the port of Wisbech and met Eliza Jones and married in a hurry as they apply for a lience on the 25 of March 1832 and married on the 27 March 1832 and because of that I think that is the reason he gave Wisbech as place of birth .

thank you Susan but on Cambridge records of concent it gave his age above 22 which would give of birth around late 1809 to 1810 at the time of marriage in 1832 Matthew gave from Wisbech but as a mariner he could of said that at the time of marriage. they apply for permission on the 25 March and married on the 27 march and as I understand he was a mariner befor he met Eliza Jones so he could be on the ships from the age of 12years Due to what I know I don't think the year of birth could not be 1812 but it would be nice to think those were his parents

Hi Sandra

It is very possible that Mathew did not tell the truth when marrying ...he would not be the first..... as you said they married in a hurry.

Many people said they were of age when they married but were not, I have had this myself with my Grt Grandparents.

Have you thought it could be possible he put his age up to join the navy in the first place and carried it on in marriage.

Have you checked this Death Reg out .

Hi Susan

Thank you for your help as I live in Australia and this Matthew Moore well I have hit a brick wall with him so has my Cousin. Is it possible that you can look up the Mariner records as I have BT 115 but it has on it enter before he was a mariner in 1832 so he could of been in ships from the age of 11 or 12 he never on census and his wife was Eliza Jones some thing happen to her as the youngest children were with there grandmother Lucy Jones in the 1851 or 1861 census as she was a Lodging House Keeper in Wisbech. She had William and Mary with her and they are the 2 youngest and we do not know what happen to the rest of the family. any help you can help me would be lovely
