Any ideas. I have several tree requests outstanding and am dying to get more information from these peeps.

Hi Susan and welcome to the GR message boards.

Sadly, no. If people don't respond there isn't anything you can do. They may not reply for several reasons, no longer members of GR, have changed email and haven't received notification of your message or may have lost interest. Its very frustrating when it happens.

You can always post requests on these boards if you are looking for info. Lots of people to try and help. Just give all the info you have about the person(s) who are researching.

Keep an eye on the messages you've sent...............to see when they are opened....IF they are

Also, bear in mind that info on other members' trees is not always properly-researched, so never take anything at face value..........double-check everything that doesn't have documentary validation on the other person's tree.

Your own research should always be what you rely on

Do not hold your breath, a vast amount of trees on here contain very little.

I found in the past that I had far more info than any people I contacted on here (with 3 excellent exceptions) and in fact several trees had less than 10 people on.

Do not assume that because you have found a matching name that the tree holder involved can really be of help.

You would be better off here with asking direct questions about an ancestor and see what the 'helpers' on here can find out for you.

I know it's a matter of personal preference but I'd be very wary of giving people access to my tree (on here or anywhere) without having had communication with them first and establishing that there may indeed be a valid connection.

I agree with MarieCeleste, Be very careful about giving access to your tree without relavant connections.

Once you open your tree you will have no control over what is taken and how it is used

Did you use the preset facility that requests they open their tree? If so then it could be they read your message but if you hadn't given a clue as to how you were connected then decided not to reply.

Personally I never use that preset message. I delete the info in the subject and message fields and add my own giving brief details of how I think we may be connected.

Have they opened your message? You can check by going to 'messages' then 'sent messages'. If there is a blue envelope by their name then it hasn't been read.

If you used the preset request and, find they have opened your message but have not replied, then it might be worth trying again but this time deleteing all the preset fields and adding your own personal message.
