Hi All.

Had a brilliant day in Birmingham Library today. Met up with Brummiejan in the vain hope of finding her missing Henry Longfield.

She didn't find him. I helped for a while but then got caught up in finding some interesting stuff inthe Electoral Rolls. Then I moved onto Monumental Inscriptions for Key Hill Cemetary in the Jewellery Quarter and St. Mary's Handsworth.

We didn't stop for lunch until really late (was it before or after 2 Jan?), shared the salad I'd brought for us and then went back to some more searching.

I think I found a lot more useful stuff than Jan did. Not sure if we are going to get back into the Library before it closes so everything can be moved to the new place. Then it's a ten month wait.

The Archives on Floor 7 are closed as of today but I think it's a couple of weeks before the open access on Floor 6 closes too.

Anyway it was good fun so thanks Jan for a day out I wasn't planning two weeks ago. :-D

Hi Jill - really enjoyed it too. Whatever shall we do till next Sept! I do have some Worcestershire & Warwickshire ancestors - not to mention Herefordshire & Shropshire! - so might end up going further afield at last.
It was nearer 3 than 2 when we ate and if left to Jill we would still be fasting, but I was beginning to swoon so she took pity on me!
If anybody else wants to join in the fun next year, we could make a date to inflict ourselves on the new central library. God help them.
Jan :-D :-D

Well I think we should try for one more day there before they close Jan.

Then how about seeing what Solihull has to offer?

I did spend an hour in Solihull last year when the kids were doing an activity there. I actually felt quite conspicuous even speaking to the librarian because it was so quiet compared to the quiet talking going on in Birmingham.

I should find what they have to offer us. This is the relevant webpage for the info http://www.solihull.gov.uk/familyhistory/14546.htm

ps. Save the cereal bars for next time :-D

One thing I need to say - completely irrelevant - had a grey moment today, one of many. The TV series I was on about is on Sundays BBC1 at 9pm - not Thursdays, der!

Don't worry Jan.

I'd completely forgotten anyway :-D.xJ

I live between Hereford and Worcester and would be glad to help in searches at either,

Now that's tempting Kay! Thanks for the offer.
I am assuming you mean to get together? That would be great as it's quite tricky negotiating unfamiliar territory!
I would love to do this, realistically after the New Year. I am going to try a re-visit to the B'ham archives with Jill before they close 20th Dec, as they don't re-open till 3rd September (at least).
If you want anything looking up let me know - Birmingham has stuff from places it now covers but which used to be elsewhere, including Worcestershire.
Would be interested to know if Worcs archives duplicates this, I assume it does?

Happy to have a get together or look up.

Sadly I don't have local relatives so all my searches at either the Hereford or Worcester Archives have been on behalf of other people. Worcestershire Archives may cover some of the areas that used be within the county pre the boundary changes, but to check that they are all covered this is a link to the parishes they hold. http://www.worcestershire.gov.uk/cms/pdf/WHCvfinal2.pdf

Thanks for the offer re Birmingham but there is no one in my tree from there either. I was fated to live nowhere near my ancesters!

Good Luck re Birmingham and maybe see you in the New Year

Jan. Al has organised so many activities for us to do but has told me I have most of next week free. Tuesday she has the dentist which I arranged for her.

Would you like to try for next Friday again or see what we can do after that?

I definitely want to go back.

Got to hope to find a marriage of Selina Newey to Richard Eadie. I've got the ref for it in Dec 1849 but no idea at the moment which church in Brum. I've looked at Marriage Locator but it only shows up as being between St. Thomas and St. Chad RC. Does that mean it falls in the space of whatever is in between them or it's between the two of them? I think it means the space in between.

I think that Selina is the one for the entry on FamilySearch which gives her parents. I'd like to see the marriage cert to confirm her father. I'm still hoping for confirmation or not, that hubby and I actually have mutual Newey ancestors.

Just had a word with Al and she confirms I can do any day next week bar Tuesday :-D

Andrew was asking me all about you yesterday evening. He's asked to meet you sometime.

See you soon.
