Thank you all kindly for the input. The John McEntee I am following (my great-great grandfather) was born in Ireland 1840-1845. He married a Mary Ann McAloon (also born in Ireland) in Glasgow in 1870. On their marriage registration his father is shown as Bernard McEntee and his mother's maiden name is given as Mary Bresley. All of John and Mary Ann's children bar one were born in Glasgow. The exception was a middle child (Catherine) born in Eshywulligan Townland, Clones, in 1878 ( I'm thinking they must have visited their homeland on occasion) . It turns out (via 1901 and 1911 census) that McEntee, McAloon and Breslin were common surnames in that townland which leads me to assume that the "Bresley" on the marriage registration is what the Scottish registrar thought he heard. Mary Ann (nee McAloon) died in Glasgow in 1909 and I think my John McEntee then returned to Ireland and popped up in the 1911 census in that same Eshywulligan Townland. This might explain why I could never find a death for him in my Scotland research. |

I wonder if this is the same John McEntee, a farmer in Cortenal who wrote a will in 1912 leaving his estate to his brother, Francis McEntee? |
