Are there records for national service since ww2? I know my father did this and would like to find out more.

They will be with the other records for the Regiment in which he served, and, like WW2 records, not generally available. (Except, I think, to next of kin).

Try Google - there are lots of entries.

Although no doubt records will exist they are unlikely to be released into the public domain for many years yet to come.

Researching:
Don't put off until tomorrow doing what you can do today. If you like doing it today you can do it again tomorrow. Be kind to your children for it is they who will decide which care home you end up in.

My father in law did his NS in the RAF from 1946, and yes, they can be ordered from the link Jonesy gave.

To be honest, it was so full of abbreviations for his postings, if he weren't around to fill in the explaination, we'd have had a lot of bother trying to work out what they meant.

As father in law is still living and filled up the forms, records came quite quickly at no charge. If your mother (or father) is still living, then they can do the same. Otherwise, it will cost you £30 with proof of death and may take up to a year to arrive.

When I sent off for my dads army records I got his National Service records as well.

My dad was just too young to have served in the Army in WW2, he did however join the Home Guard (Dads Army) and the TA.

It appears that his TA time was attached to his National Service records, and he spent most of his time in Austria/Germany. Went in in 1946 and stayed in until 1951.

We are all of us in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars, Oscar Wilde New avatar, my dad age about 3/4 months, could have been worse, it could have been the awful nude on a rug!!
