Clarifying MC's post - In Ont, births are closed for 97 y (marr for 82 y), so you couldn't buy the b.cert anyways.
Who can apply for a birth certificate? FAQ The following people can apply for a birth certificate: If the application is for your own birth certificate and you are at least 13 years old. If the application is for your child’s birth certificate and you are named as a parent on your child’s original. http://www.ontario.ca/government/frequently-asked-questions-birth-marriage-and-death-certificates
Incidentally, I see Ontario's quite relaxed abt this - in BC, I don't have the right to buy my children's b.certs since they're adults and alive.
The most recent census available for Ontario is 1911, but the most recent Canadian census available is 1916, but it only applied to the 3 prairie provinces (AB, SK, MB). 1921 should be available a year from now (but probably not indexed by then).

Canada, Voters Lists, 1935-1980 Name: Richard F Miller Location: Hamilton, Ontario Occupation: Painter Electoral District: Hamilton West Year: 1957
He was a painter living 314 Locke Street South with Ivan J Miller, sports editor and Mrs Florence Miller. Also at the same address appears to be Loretta Galevan, clerk.
The voter lists given no ages or relationships.
No other records before or after with the same middle initial.

No, don't bother Nicola!
Canada has much stricter privacy laws than we do and, as a general rule, the release limits on records are around 100 years for births and 80 years for marriages. In a lot of cases Ancestry will just give you a similar index for a marriage as it would for one in this country so you'd still need to buy the cert. There are a few, very few, exceptions.
It is quite good for older records, though.
The census just goes up to 1911, like ours.

i have a branch thats were born in Canada and im really shocked that the certificates i wanted cost 4 times as much. Does anyone have worldwide access on Ancestry? if so what is the information like for canada? does it have births/deaths/marriages and census etc ? I have a relative Richard francis miller born 20/8/1932 apparantly at lake erie in ontario, canada, no idea who his parents were without the cert. he married a Margarita/Rite Mcbride around 1960 in Hamilton canada. they went off to belfast, ireland after that. Usually id get the marriage cert for parents names but its 65/75 dollars which is a heck of a lot, so im wondering whether to just upgrade my Ancestry account. All advice appreciated.
Nicola x
