1881 John Hood is recorded as 26, 1891 John Kay Hood is 36 when in he was 45, in the 1901 census he is down as 43 when he was 55. All along his age is recorded younger than other records would suggest. It's also possible that I have the wrong John Hood although I doubt it as other evidence suggests otherwise. John Kay Hood is my great grandfather and his death in 1932 at the age of 85 supports his birth in 1846. |

I suppose the age difference might be a mis-transcription too - it isn't possible to look at the image on Ancestry, but I believe you can on Scotland's People? Not 100% sure about that though! |

I've looked at the 1901 census and I think John Hood in that is in actual fact John Kay Hood. He is down as 43, I think his age is incorrect as the family members list are the same family as in previous 1891 census. All the names fit in with what I have learnt from a living relative. |

I'm really surprised at the response I've had. I've never used the message centre before. John Kay Hood was born in the Gorbals, Glasgow. |

I'm looking for information on the above. John Hood apparently worked for the Allan Shipping Line as a shipping clerk. Family stories going about that he was a Captain but I haven't been able to establish any truth to this. I have him & his wife Euphemia on the 1891 census . Euphemia died 1893. John remarried twice since her death but there is no record of him in the 1901 or 1911 census. The assumption that I'm making at the moment is he could possibly been at see. John died in 1932 in Westland Drive, Glasgow in accomodation that was built by the Allan Shipping Line for retired employees. On his death entry he is listed as a shipping clerk(retired) |
