They did a programme on tv a long time ago, about the above possibly illegitimacy of Edward 1V, quite facinating, hope they repeat it!!

What is also very interesting is that Richard III's claim that his brother Edward IV was illeg. may well be true.

The program had dug up the log of Rouen cathedral for that time showing that at the time of conception for Edward IV her husband Richard Plantagenet (Duke of York) was fighting at Pontoise, a city on the Seine about 20 miles from Paris. Wm I of Normandy was also killed fighting in the same city. Cecily was apparently having an affair with an English archer. Edward IV bore no resemblance to his father unlike his siblings.

The unsuccessful attempt by Richard of York to be made king and the dubious parentage of Edward IV were both major factors at the root of the Wars of the Roses.

There are lots of living descendants of the daughters of John of Gaunt & Kathryn de Roet who were legitimized after the death of John's wife Blanche with the family name of Beaufort.

"Henry's main claim to the English throne derived from his mother through the House of Beaufort. Henry's mother, Lady Margaret Beaufort, was a great-granddaughter of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, third son of Edward III, and his third wife Katherine Swynford nee de Roet. "

Not the strongest claim then so his marriage to Elizabeth of York was well judged.

A skeleton found beneath a Leicester car park has been confirmed as that of English king Richard III.

Experts from the University of Leicester said DNA from the bones matched that of descendants of the monarch's family.

Richard was killed in battle in 1485 but his grave was lost when the church around it was demolished in the 16th Century.

Is it possible that they would be running a primetime two hour documentary if the bones were NOT Richard III? I think not.

Timeline:

10.00am – Press conference announcing the results of the scientific analysis of the Greyfriars skeleton. You will be able to follow the press conference via a live video feed on the BBC News website, or through extensive coverage on BBC Radio Leicester, or by following the University of Leicester on twitter.: @uniofleicester

11.00am – New website goes live at http://www.le.ac.uk/richardiii/

9.00pm – Documentary about the project on Channel 4

Channel 4, 4th February 21.00

When a skeleton was reported found under a Leicester council car park last September, the news broke around the world. Could it be the remains, lost for 500 years, of England's most infamous king? Now, in a world exclusive, Channel 4 has the full inside story of the hunt for Richard III. The discovery of the body and the battery of scientific tests to establish its identity have been carried out in complete secrecy and, to date, no footage of them has been seen by anyone but the investigating team. But this programme - made by the only team allowed to follow the scientists - tells every step, twist and turn of the story. It unveils a brand new facial reconstruction made from the skull and - in scenes to be shot just hours before broadcast - reveals the results of the final tests that will confirm or deny the body's identity.

--------------------------

The University of Leicester will reveal the results of a series of scientific investigations into human remains – which are possibly those of King Richard III – at a media briefing on Monday 4 February at 10am.
