Thanks Thelma - you've spotted the other problem with tracing her. She had used the name Tessie S (or possibly Jessie S). But no luck searching with those alternatives after 1892 either. |

That's the family Shirley and thank you for the information and for taking the time to look them up. I had found those documents but have yet to find Sarah on the 1901 or 1911 census. She just appears to have disappeared after giving birth to Harry. Samuel and Elizabeth appear to have raised him as their child but his birth certificate tells a different story. No father is menntioned on the certificate, but I suspect his father was "Harry Powell". However, it's not something you can prove. I may have to take a trip to Northampton Records and see if I can locate a death/burial for Sarah. Alternately, she may have been married by 1901. I have searched using her birth details minus a surname but no luck on that. |

Sarah was born to Samuel Morby and Elizabeth Rowles in Great Gransden, Huntingdoneshire. The family moved via Eynesbury and on to Winslow in Buckinghamshire. In 1892 she gave birth to a child (Harry Powell Morby) whilst living and working in Northampton. After this point I have been unable to find any trace of her (in marriages or deaths). Her child was raised by his grandparents, Samuel and Elizabeth. Her last address (in 1892) was 18 Vernon Street, Northampton. Did she die giving birth and the death wasn't registered? Or, did she give her child to her parents and go back to work? Any help to find Sarah would be most welcome. |
