Hi William Henry Clarke was my great grandfather I have some info on him Banns read in St Marys Lancaster nov and dec 1898 for marriage to Sarah Ann Clegg ( no record of marriage though)
John William Clarke Clegg baptised in St Marys born 1898 son of above
Sarah Clarke living bridge lane Lancaster in 1901 census with daughter Elizabeth
William Clarke living with Sarah and 3 other children (the above John lived with Sarah's sister and Elizabeth had died) in Bridge Lane Lancaster in 1911 census age 40 yrs with birthplace given as Barnsley Yorkshire
Although on BMD I can find a William Henry Clarke born in Barnsley 1871, I can't find him in any other census apart from the 1911 one and no other records of him, not even a birth or baptism on any other site

sorry not to reply sooner, my notifications don't seem to coming through by email but thank you all
safc, thanks for confirming the marriage
maddie, that could be him, I was working on him being born c1871 as he was 40 on the 1911 census but that could be wrong as the family were in a boarding house and they had the birth year of one of the children wrong by 2yrs, I should have broadened my search but I'm still new to this and none of the family had heard of him being born in Yorkshire, I'm not sure how I can confirm this but I'll keep trying
lancashireAnn, I had found Jane born 1913 but as she was born after 1911 (when Sarah stated she had already had 7 children) there is still one missing
thanks again Linda

oops - I had missed the fact that he/she would have been born before 1911
I wonder if the missing one (who is presumably one of those who died) was a still birth and therefore never registered as a birth.
There is an Annie Clarke death age 0 registered in Lancaster in 1911 but I can't see a matching birth

just as a matter of interest ............. you don't get notifications of new postings on threads on GR
it is up to YOU to find them.
Look to the left of the screen at the box headed Tools
Click on My Threads
There you will see all threads that you started or on which you posted.
Do not bother with My Watched Threads ............. in which you are supposed to get emails or pms ...................... they don't work.

thanks for the help so far :)
there appear to have been 2 William Henry Clarkes born in Barnsley at about the same time, my William probably born 1871, so the above census info posted by Maddie could be either
and I still can't find any sign of my William on the 1901 census unless he was working away and boarding somewhere and didn't have his correct place of birth on the census
If I apply for William and Sarah's marriage cert will it have their parents names on it?

William's father's occupation is 'Brick maker' is there a way of searching census to include occupations?
there is a William Clarke born about 1843 in Wombwell (which is near Barnsley) and his father is also William but occ in 1881, 1891 and 2001 census is 'miner'
