Will passports ever become available documents for access? Are there any sources on the origins of passports as legal documents? |

Hi Lawrence, it depends on the period in question. Bear in mind that passports weren't compulsory before about the early 1900s (I'm sure someone will be along with the history) |

I think passports as we know them were first required about the time of the first world war. It was a single sheet folded into eight? and held in a cardboard cover. |
