Quick Question - If I was to visit a Records Office to find a death, would I be able to see a copy of the register where it was recorded? |

When and where was the death? |

You would not see a death record without buying the certificate. Record offices do not hold these records, they are be found in register offices. Register office staff can be very helpful but are unlikely to disclose any information that has to be paid for. As Andy said, you may be able to find parish records in record offices, although there are very few non-conformist records about. A parish record would not give you all the information found on a certificate. |

A Records Office is not the same thing as a Register Office. |

Something else is worth mentioning. If you intend to visit a record office check first on their requirements. Most are online now. You need to take proof of identity for most of them and one I visited asked for two passport-sized photographs for a readers' ticket which you needed to go in. You only usually need to show proof of identity the first time you visit. |
