I have limited resorces but by the time I can post a reply to a problem all you speedy gonzalises have beat me to it. Will have to go into training and work up a speed. I may need a trainer to give me tips lol

My only tip is to have several tabs open at once. Always got one for Ancestry and FreeBMD with a new tab waiting to open

True what Shirley says, it's not a competition and GB makes a very good point about multiple tabs (I sometimes have multiple browsers open, e.g. Chrome, Firefox, IE because I find some sites work better in different browsers but perhaps I'm just funny that way).

The only training you can do is muck in and help, and watch what happens. I learned a lot from just watching the likes of Shirley, GB and other very experienced members. It's helped my own research a lot.

And yes, the data can vary quite a bit from site to site it's all down to the transcriptions.

Bookmark every site you use, e.g. Ancestry or FMP, FreeBMD, FamilySearch, etc and whenever you see a link to a site - bookmark it, you never know when it might be useful. The more you use different sites the quicker you start to realise which site might have the answer to the question.

Well I must be falling behind sometimes as some searches take longer than that. I too keep several sites open at once so I can hop between them .

I am on google chrome so often forget to reload the page ,which is like refresh ,so I miss sometimes the same info I have has already been found . BUT does it matter really we are all trying to help

Only as an average. Some queries get four or five answers in just a couple of minures. Usually seems to be more people doing the lookups than people asking these days.

That's true Andrew there used to me loads of requests for help. Possibly the requesters are getting better and don't need help but there is definitely less new members needing our services.

Have you though about Parish records look ups ....

Using or example the free OPC sites and FreeReg

I know there are more pre 1837 records on line nowadays but in general, searching thru the parish transcriptions can be time consuming and some researchers find that tedious .....

Good suggestion Renes. FamilySearch too has loads of parish records which aren't indexed and you have to browse the images.

Fredk - if you're a patient sort of person that could be a huge help to people.
