I think that is the expression
I am new to trying to help on the boards
I have seen this when monitoring the boards
Why is it done
Explaining it be appreciated

In the General Chat board there is a lot of reporting for unjustified reasons.

On the other boards it is done to stop personal information from being displayed, to delete the same question asked on more than one board, amd generally for breaking the site rules.

When reported the post is removed from display until the GR team rule on it. The poster should get an email informing him what he has done wrong if the report is upheld. Otherwise it is restored.

Fredk - you always know when it's been RR'd because where the text of the post should be it says "This post has been requested for review".

Reporting a post should always be a last resort, pointing out to the poster (in a polite way) what the breach is should be the first course of action, and perhaps followed up with a pm pointing out what is wrong.

There are some self appointed board police who don't have much better to do than trawl the boards looking for perceived breaches of protocol and then their little fingers quiver with delight when they find one to push the button on.

Genes have stated that people who habitually report with no good reason (a lot do it out of spite against posters they don't like) will be suspended if they persist.

On the few occasions when I've reported a post I will state on the thread that I have done it, and why (although many don't have the gumption, but I can understand some fear reprisals). Ideally, when a report is made it should state the reporter's name and the reason they selected.

Just another point - if it's the opening post on a thread that is reported, and Genes decide that the report is justified then the whole thread is deleted (the same way as when someone deletes their own opening post to remove a thread). You'll sometimes see people referring to a thread having been "whooshed".

If it's a post further down the thread that is reported and GR delete it then it's just that post that goes.
