Hello Everybody,

Thank you very much for all of your help!

I think I need get my head round the London geography and hopefully things will be much clearer.

Thank you for all of your advice! It has made it clearer for me and given me a start point! I am living in hope that he has a grave stone, but I am not getting too excited just yet, he seemed like he had some money behind him so fingers crossed.

His wife Isabella was originally from London so they may have been buried with her family, she seems to have been baptised at Christ Church in Watney Street and always lived around Tower Hamlets. James was born in Ireland but was brought to Liverpool by his parents when just a small child. He remained in Liverpool until 1869 when he travelled to New Zealand. From then on he never stays still, living and travelling between london/ Liverpool/ Ireland and Brazil! A very interesting man, would love to find a grave!

Thank you

Steph :)

You have said that he died in Hammersmith London which could be under the W6 postcode, 10 Camden Gardens is most likely an NW1 postcode and St James' Square is an SW1Y postcode. Where they married will fall under East London postcodes (E1).

I suggest that you do as much research as you can online (as posted previously on this thread) otherwise you may find you run out of time when you visit London.

One other point I would make - he may have died in Camden Gardens but maybe there was a plot/family plot in East London (on the off chance).

Hope you can track him down!

There are a couple of other problems...

Even if you could find out where he was buried
- There may not be a headstone
- The grave may have been reused
- It might have been built on (more so with church graveyards than municipal ones.)

All the same - good luck with your search

Steph, what was his name? Just on the remote chance that there may be something in the newspaper archives or London burials on Ancestry.

Hello Everybody!

I have recently discovered that an ancestor died 23 January 1914 in Hammersmith London. He died at the address 10 Camden Gardens. He lived in London from the 1870s onwards other known address were St James Square Notting Hill, Tower Hamlets. He and his wife were married twice for some reason, firstly in St Dunstan and All Saints Stepney in 1871 and then in Christ Church Watney Street Tower Hamlets in 1879.

I would like to make a trip down to London at some point in the future, but I do not know much about London Geneaology or geography for that matter.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest possible burial sites either municipal or Church? Although married in a Protestant Church I do believe he was born and baptised a Catholic.

Also are there any online resources available? Any advice would be greatly appreciated concerning the burial of this man!

Thank you

Steph :)
