You could try The London Gazette - there are quite a lot of notices about the estates of people from abroad, but if you don't know his name you will need to have at least some idea of his address in order to identify the right notice.

In the 1940's there are 175 from Australia, but at least half of them are women, so it's not an impossible task.

Recently found out that a legal notice/advertisement of some kind was published in the News of the World during the 40's or 50's. I think it was from a legal firm in Australia asking for descendents from a man and it was to do with his will/estate. Obviously a shame as the paper is no longer published.
The man would be my gggrand-dad - he's my HUGE brick wall because I do not have his name. There was no name on the birth certificate of his daughter.
I have emailed one site which would do a search at a hourly rate and not knowing the exact year it would be rather expensive for a copy.
Would anyone know of other ways or sites that I can try?
