Yep .................. ordering from any site other than GRO also costs much more :-D

plus if you order from a registry Office from overseas, you have to add to the cost

Add £1 per certificate for the cost of postage (no UK stamps over here)

Buy International Money Coupons for the correct amount from the bank ................ PLUS bank charges

Buy special large envelope to enclose with address on ............ other countries don't have the A4 required



The last time I did this, my final cost was more or less double, at almost £20.


On the other hand, GRO charges £9.25 including postage and handling, whether it is in the UK or overseas

That IS expensive!!

I have just looked at one where they are £10 if ordered by phone for posting and £13 if ordered for personal collection within 24 hours.

Obviously another postcode lottery!!

Expensive? I'll say.

Just looked at our local Register Office and in addition to the £10 certificate and £1 credit / debit card charge there is an extra £33 (due to rise to £36 next year) if you want a cert there and then.

That's a whopping £44 per cert.....!

paul if you go to the registry office you can pick up your certificates from most of them on the day you go
but this way will cost you more money

this is why we get them from the GRO sit pluss it save on traval
if you have to go from one end of the country to the other

I also love the way the people on Heir Hunters manage to acquire certificates within hours when the rest of us mere mortals have to wait days or even weeks. The marvels of television I suppose.

It's like Time Team.... the cameras always happen to be in the right trench when something is discovered and it's always lifted with the greatest of ease. Not that I would suggest that artefacts are reburied and then dug up for the cameras but.... ;-)

That information was only added to death certs from c 1970 it does too depend on the informants knowledge

Can anyone tell me why, on BBC's Heir Hunters, when they apply for a death certificate the person's date and place of birth is included but when I apply for one from the GRO that information isn't included?

Frustrated!!!!
