However, my attention has been diverted by the number of advertisements offering rewards for runaway slaves. What a disgusting trade.

	and many Brits were heavily involved in the slave trade ........ ......... buying slaves in Africa, owning ships that carried slaves from Africa to America (and occasionally to the UK), and owning or being managers on the plantations. As Reggie said, it was a fact of life in the US, and in Britain.
