How do you tick a thread as answered

only the OP can tick a thread as answered ............. but they can tick ANY post on that thread as answered .....................

......... and that is why it is unpopular, because too many people tick "answered" when all they have done is tick a post as asking the correct question!

eg, "do you have the marriage certificate?"

as a result, many people just ignore the 'tick' and open the thread anyway.

Ticked as answered does not close the thread ................................ posts can still be made long after it has been ticked.

Only GR can close a thread, and then only if it is a stickied thread.

Fortunately or unfortunately, this is not a site where threads can be closed to future responses.

The only way to prevent anyone posting on a thread is by deleting the thread ........... and then only if it is your own thread.

Another solution is to just go back to your original thread go to edit and add

completed

to the title..

Simples ......

The tick a thread as answered is not relevant on a "Chat" Board/forum

To mark a thread as answered then it would need to be a thread that asked a question in the first place

If the Board is designed specifically to ask for an answer to a questions such as the Find Ancestors Board then the facility to mark it as answered is required.

Chat is just that, Chat; open to all and only ends when people stop adding to it at which time it will move further down the board into oblivion alternatively if the thread author wants they can delete it, assuming its not under review, so marking it as answered is not relevant on a Chat Board

Added: There is a flaw with the marking a thread as answered on GR, once it is ticked members can still add to that thread, so should that be looked at or changed?

Phyll, only GR can sticky a thread..but you can use 'watch this' at top of thread...and then find it easily by clicking "my watched threads" under 'Tools' at left of page...

incidentally if you do that with a thread ticked as "answered", you can also change it to 'unanswered ' again.

It's not possible on some boards, but is on FA ( might be FLR also?)

On FA if you have a thread you should see:

'RamblingRose' Report Edit Delete Mark this as answered

Well asked NanaSue, I have been wondering this. Also how do you do the 'stickied thing'?

Could somebody please explain how to tick a thread as answered.

Is possible in all the forums or just a specific one.

I've looked around but can't work it out. :-D :-D :-D
