Just to clarify - on the probate record it says that administration was granted to his widow, not that the money was left to her.

I don't really mean to be pedantic but there are quite a few people who, when seeing the name of the person being granted administration or probate, have said "why did he leave his money to them, instead of his family?" The person administering the estate would be someone deemed capable of carrying out the task and may not necessarily be a beneficiary.

Lorraine, you may decide to order the Will. This website will explain how to go about it:-

http://www.justice.gov.uk/courts/probate/copies-of-grants-wills

It will cost £6 but apart from the monetary distribution you can sometime find a wealth of family history and confirmation of theories.
