Here is a news release re the 1921 Canadian census:



"Canadian laws dictate that the country's census records must be kept private for 92 years. After that time, the records are transferred to Library and Archives Canada and will be opened for public use. That means that the census taken on June 1st, 1921, should be made transferred on June 1st, 2013. However,the census records will NOT be available to the public on that day.


"The law stipulates that the records are to be transferred to Library and Archives Canada on that date and the records are to be made available. However, government personnel will require some time to receive the records, catalog, scan, and place the images online. The work cannot begin until June 1st of 2013 so we can assume that public availability will not occur until some time after that date.

"The Library and Archives Canada Blog states, "Our intention is to make it available to researchers online, in the same format as previous censuses, as soon as possible after that date." "

Least it will be online with the next couple of years. Wish the British regulations about the 100 year rule for Census records wasn't so antiquated.

Keep saying I might have kicked the bucket by then or be in lar lar land before I get my paws on it.

Waiting in great anticipation for both 1921 census records because so many people depend on my finding records :-D :-D :-D

Because of Canada's strict privacy laws, the 1921 Canadian census will be such a gold mine for researchers.

The AG search linked to these images, but their nominal index could be a bit iffy. AG covers:
Census of 1851 (Canada East, Canada West, New Brunswick, but not Nova Scotia)
Census of Canada, 1901
Census of the Northwest Provinces, 1906
Census of Canada, 1911

Although the LAC index is better, all I get for say the 1911 census is:

There are similar blurbs for all the names in the h/h, but cobbling them together doesn't give a nice transcription. I much prefer AG's:

The two transcriptions agree here, so I could do a regular search for Wyness in Quebec but, since I've gotten the LAC image here, I could search at AG for district # 162 (Jacques Cartier), Enumeration District 24 - although it's not written in by the enumerator, note that the sheet is stamped in top right as "Dist. 162 Enu. 24" and then view page 4 of the indexing to get the above transcription. (The split view option shows both the ttranscribed page and the original image together).

mgnv - once the 1921 is on line, you'll have to type up a simple explanation of how we can search it before it is indexed.
