Poss 1880s. I don't know Rosa's surname before she married Harry. I am doing this for a friend and believe that we have ancestors in common. Can anyone help. I am awaiting an eye operation so can spend very little time on the computer. I am also working on the sparce information that the person interested gave me,so thought of the genes family.I have been told that Harry Cotterills father was called William {Bill}. Now I do know that my paternal grandfather had 2 brothers/ step brothers, one called Bill and one called Will who I met when a child. My grandfather was George Cotterill 1880s roughly and his father was Robert Smith Cotterill his mother was Emma and she was called Cotterill before their marriage. I gave Rotherham as the place of birth as this is correct for Harry,sorry about the time scale it is roughly when Harry's father was born. I feel Reggie well told off.Elaine.

Rose I am working on my family as I have the info but you have it exactly right. My grandfathers family moved to Parkgate Rotherham just before my grandfather George was born.The lady who I am trying to help asked her father and they moved from Staffordshire about the same time to exactly the same area as my family and they have the same surname. I know that my great grandparents had their own children but others named Cotterill who they brought up as their own. I was just told that they were step brothers. It is as you see quite complicated. See if you can get some more info. and dates from your friend. A marriage in 1945 seems a little late.

Rose Robert, lived in Tamworth before moving to Parkgate he married Emma who lived there her name was Cotterill before their marriage.I think that when Robert died that is when the so called step brothers of my grandfather were brought into the family. I wondered if my friends family of Cotterills who lived at Albert Road also {Parkgate} joined to help Emma.
My friend says that her ancestor was Thomas Cotterill born in Butterly park or Riddings near Ripley Derbyshire but of this I am not sure. In 1871 she says the family lived at 109 Albert Road Parkgate so it must have been Thomas as William was not born 'til 1878/9. can't find them but eye sight is not good so cannot ferret for long. Rose. Av done it, by a little lateral thinking. Robert Smith and Emma Cotterills daughter Emma married Edwin Cook1901 and this is where the tie is to my friends family.Will do more because their Name is Cotterill so must be on more than one front.
