Thats why I didnt want to delete....looks as if I'm dismissing the help, which I'm not.

I did write Finished at the side of the title.

thankyou

The ultimate way to 'stop' a thread you have started is to delete it lol, but generally I wouldn't advise doing so as the info on it might come in useful at a later date, either for you or someone else.

If as advised you add 'Completed' or similar to the title it usually works. It will slip down the boards soon enough.

Elaine, the 'mark as answered' facility is only on Find Ancestors and ( I think ) Find Living Relatives boards, not Genealogy, or General :-)

I'm sorry,but I can't seem to see tick as answered....only report.,edit.,delete.The only other words in blue/green are..Elaine & Post Date.
Elaine

Ps..have gone back to the three threads I want to finish...found tick as answered on one,and got the green tick, but gone to the other two twice, and can still only see report.,edit.,delete.
What am I doing wrong?

To get the thread ticked and marked as answered you have to click on the bluey/green writing above your first post which says tick as answered (where you can also edit, delete etc.) Adding answered to your thread title won't do that.

Elaine, for the green tick to show you have to actually click the "Mark this as answered" button on one of the posts on the thread.

Thankyou all..I put Answered after the thread title, but it doesn't show a green tick on mine....is it only seen on everyone else's?

Thankyou.
MC....one of the threads is trying to trace my grandparents back to Wales, cos that's what I was told by family....I have now found the Evans' never left Lancashire, and my grandma was born Wigan.Lancs.......it was HER grandfather who came from Wales!
So all my searching there, was wrong.

Or add the words (ANSWERED) to the thread title/subject line

Hi Elaine - are you referring to threads you've started asking for help?

If so, go to your very first post on the thread and click "edit" - you can then get back to the thread title and you could add the word "Complete" to the end of the title. Would be an idea to put a post on the thread stating what you're doing and why.

You can also click on a post to mark it as answered which then shows the whole thread with a green tick on the boards index.

There's nothing you can do to actually stop people posting on the thread.

When I have followed a wrong line,or have finished a line, how do I put 'search complete' to stop anyone wasting time adding to it?
Thankyou
